How to prepare your surf camp in Essaouira

Duration, season, suitcase, level and budget: a few simple choices before departure make the week much smoother.

Choose the right duration

3 days - discovery

This is the minimum duration to get a taste of surfing and start progressing. After 3 days, the majority of beginners stand up on the foams and understand the basics of the take-off.

It's suitable if you combine surfing with other activities or if you come on a long weekend.

5 days - the right compromise

You have time to settle in, stabilize your technique over several sessions, and you have a buffer day left for rest or an excursion.

This is a good duration for a motivated beginner or an intermediate who wants to consolidate.

7 days and more - the complete format

You can alternate sessions and recovery, manage the less good days, and go find the best spots on the coast like Sidi Kaouki or Imsouane.

This is the ideal duration for a real level jump, especially if you want to go from foam to green waves.

Choose the right season

À Essaouira, octobre à mars correspond à la haute saison de houle : vagues régulières, parfois puissantes, eau plus fraîche et combinaison 3/2 ou 4/3 mm selon sensibilité.

April to June and September form a very good half-season: gentler swell, waves accessible to beginners, more pleasant water. This is often our favorite window for first times and families.

Assess your level honestly

The actual level allows us to direct the right lessons and the right spots. There is no shame in calling yourself a beginner: progress is measured by the sessions practiced, not by the years that pass.

NiveauWhat you know how to do
Complete beginnerYou've never been on a board.
InitiatedYou've done 2-3 sessions, you understand the foam.
Independent beginnerYou get up on the moss and you row alone.
IntermediateYou catch some green waves and do some bottoms.
ConfirmedYou read the wave and you chain together maneuvers.
